A jazz big band from the United States recently presented a concert at Jazz at Lincoln Center in Shanghai.
This is the first time Carnegie Hall’s National Youth Jazz Orchestra is touring China. The 23 y上海千花坊

The orchestra had an open rehearsal before the concert at the Jazz at Lincoln Center in Shanghai. And
80 members of the public took part in the rehearsal, many of whom were parents with their school-age children.

Carnegie Hall in New York is one of the most celebrated concert halls in the world. And since 2013 the institution has
been bringing together outstanding musicians aged between 16 and 19 to form the NYO-USA, and NYO2, an inten上海千花坊

This year the 23 young musicians from 16 states in the US, led by acclaimed trumpeter Sean Jones and Grammy Award-上海千花坊女神会所

Speaking about the band, Clive Gillinson, executive and artistic director of Carnegie上海千花坊

ten the same ones I would ask. That’s what we do with the show. We go straight to heart of the matter and take on very central question
s – like why are we are, how did we get here and what should we be doing? And the answer is that we don’t fully k上海夜生活女神会所
now, but we have a vague idea. I can talk about the edge of our knowledge and that raises the questions that we all ask.
上海夜生活The important thing about science is that it shouldn’t be separated from other aspects of human endeavor.
I think science can be described as a human reaction to nature, and that’s the motivating factor. There’s only one intere
sting question really, in my view, which is: What does it mean to be small, fragile and finite – to live a small, fragile a上海夜生活女神会所
nd finite life in an infinite universe? That, ultimately, is the only question that I’m interested in.
Physics is like a rule book for the building blocks we encounter, compar
tmentalizing why and how things happen, and establishing reason and fact. But probability seems like the devil’s advoca上海夜生活
te; it comes along and stirs it all up in ways that are unknowable and unanswerable. Isn’t the very random natu
re of our existence here what makes our presence on Earth an ecstatic one to celebrate?上海夜生活女神会所
There’s a sequence where I say exactly that in the show. Why is the Earth the way it is?
It’s a very complex mixture of the simple laws of nature and chance, and separating the tw上海夜生活
o is important if you’re trying to think about our place in the universe. You have to understand there’s a lo
上海夜生活女神会所t of chance involved, which we can’t make sense of. It’s just like blind chance. For example, the asteroid that wiped out the d
inosaurs – had that flicked one speck of dust a different way in relation to the solar system, we might not have happen
ed. We wouldn’t be here. About one billion other things might not have happened, either. (laughs)上海夜生活
So you can’t define a human being through the laws of nature, but you can extract from
the laws of nature a framework that allows you to think. You’re not allowed to stray outside it. For exa上海夜生活
mple, we do know we are very small. But there’s nothing we can do about that. I struggle with that sometimes.

In an article published by Foreign Affairs magazine in October 1967, Nixon stressed the importa上海乌托邦

“For the short run, then, this means a policy of firm restraint, of no reward, of a creative counter-pressure designed to pers

According to the book, shortly after taking office in 1969, Nixon urged Kissinger to explore the possi

The book tells how China and the US sent signals to each other.
Nixon wrote, “The first serious public step in the China initiative h

The report called the Chinese “a great and vital people w
